The office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) came into effective existence following the election by the University Senate of Prof. Joy Chioma Nwabueze as the pioneer occupant of the office on 6th October, 2016 and the subsequent approval of same by the University’s Governing Council.

Although both the University’s Senate and Governing Council had approved appointment of two Deputy Vice-Chancellors, one for Academic and the other for Administration, during the tenure of the Predecessor of the present Vice-Chancellor, that decision was not given effect until Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta took office as the 5th Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

Thus, the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) took off firmly after the election by Senate and subsequent confirmation by the University’s Governing Council of Prof. Joy Chioma Nwabueze in October, 2016.

Overview of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration):

On Friday, October 14, 2016, Prof. Joy Chioma Nwabueze assumed office as the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).  She assumed office without the full complement of staff.  Although the posting of staff to the new office had been concluded on paper on this day, the affected staff could not resume in their new office until a few days after because they were required to handover to those that took over from them in their former offices.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) began her pioneering work with the following staff:

  • Ejike Uchella, a Deputy Registrar and then College Officer of COLPAS
  • Emmanuel C. Diribe, Principal Confidential Secretary
  • Miss Ijeoma Gabriel, a Clerical Officer , and
  • Ngozi Chukwuemeka, a Caretaker Messenger.

With the arrival of these staff, the task of establishing a strong Administrative Structure for the new office commenced.  That task was successfully accomplished with the translation of a mere administrative architectural design into a structure.

The University Management contracted out the furnishing of the new office.  That contract was executed fully because the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and the offices of staff in the office were exquisitely furnished and made aesthetically beautiful.

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) has lived up to expectation.  The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) has, during the period under review, diligently given the Vice-Chancellor the administrative support expected from her.  On several occasions when the Vice-Chancellor travelled, the Deputy Vice-chancellor (Administration) acted for him and gave direction to the University.

She has also on several occasions represented the Vice-Chancellor both within and outside the University.
